Creative New Zealand is the national arts development agency developing, investing in and advocating for the arts. Our purpose is to encourage, promote and support the arts in New Zealand for the benefit of all New Zealanders through funding, capability building, our international programme and advocacy. The Nelson Fringe Festival has received sponsorship funding for this year’s event from the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, which is funded by the Nelson City Council. The Programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson City’s economy in the shoulder and off seasons by bringing new spending through visitors coming to Nelson for distinct events.


Tasman District Council provides funding and advice for community initiatives and community organisations to enable them to achieve their objectives.  Grants are predominately for ‘not for profit’ community and voluntary groups working for the benefit of Tasman District communities and residents.

Established as Nelson Amateur Operatic Society in 1958, Nelson Musical Theatre brings top class musical theatre to Nelson. We present all genres of musical theatre from children's musicals, theatre restaurant, revues and large scale modern musicals. YHA Nelson is a comfortable and popular 5-star hostel in the heart of sunny Nelson city. YHA Nelson is ideally located near pubs, cafes, supermarkets, the Theatre Royal and the Refinery Art Gallery and next door to the renowned Saturday Nelson market.

Nelson School of Music offers a wide range of music education for all ages and abilities and provides wonderful opportunities to perform. Students can sign up for one on one tuition, community music courses and free Ministry of Education music classes. Budding performers can also take advantage of one of our orchestral groups.

The Refinery ArtSpace is a magnificent gallery space which is home to the annual Changing Threads: Contemporary Fibre Art Awards and a wide range of exhibitions throughout the year. Deborah Walsh 'The Artist is Pleasant' is currently working in the ArtSpace Garden with her willow sculptures offering workshops and commissions ... and of course the Refinery ArtSpace is home to the Nelson Fringe Festival.
