The Nelson Fringe Festival is excited to bring you the Visual Arts Project.

During the Nelson Fringe Festival programme launch there was a lottery for participating visual artists. The artists each selected a random title of one of the Nelson Fringe shows. Now they have one month to create an artwork based on that title and the Fringe slogan "where edges meet". They have to keep the title they are working from secret so that later on you can have fun matching artworks with titles.
Meet our amazing Visual Arts Project artists. They’re an interesting bunch. We sent them a few questions about themselves to answer, and they surprised us with their wonderfully quirky responses. Read their answers under their profile picture to find out more about them.
What next?
From 24 April until 7 May photos of the artist’s artworks and posters of Fringe shows will be displayed in the Nelson and Richmond libraries. Then everyone will have the opportunity to match the title of a show with an artwork. The person who correctly guesses the most titles will get a prize. Visit one of these libraries from 24 April to have a go!

All original artworks will be displayed with their titles during the Nelson Fringe Festival during the Box Office opening hours from 4pm utill late night each day from 29 April until 7 May at the Refinery ArtSpace, Halifax St, Nelson. There will be an Open Auction of original artworks - for more information visit the Box Office.

Each year Creative New Zealand provides funding to local authorities to encourage participation, support diversity and enable youth engagement and participation in the arts. In addition to supporting the newly launched Visual Arts Project, Creative Communities is also supporting a number of the Fringe Festival shows. Arts Council Nelson administers the scheme on behalf of Nelson City Council.
